Coping with daily stress
Nobody
told us that adulthood was a huge task, that it involved being tired
every single day and that it involved a lot of responsibilities. You
rarely have that recommended eight hours of sleep daily because you had
to finish up the house chores before hitting the bed and placing your
head on the pillow, you remembered that you hadn’t dried the laundry you
washed earlier. You skip meals because you were out doing carpools and
you completely forgot or you got stuck in traffic after picking the kids
up from school and you didn’t get home until dinnertime. That’s the
life of a typical adult in today’s world. Little wonder we fall sick
easily, our stress levels skyrocketing and some of us hit rock bottom.
But there are simple mechanisms that you can follow (which I have tried
and tested and have helped me a great deal) in coping with stress.
Avoid
too much caffeine. I know how hard this but you just have to try. I did
and I got amazing results. You don’t have to completely cut off the
caffeine, a cup of coffee or tea is okay to start up your day. Taking
coffee or tea every two to three hours will dehydrate you and that in
turn will make you feel more tired. Caffeine also interferes with your
sleep, especially when taken late in the day. Rather, take herbal teas
or natural fruit juices and even smoothies.
Do
something that relaxes you even for a few minutes. For me, it is yoga.
When I was pregnant with my daughter I had terrible back pain which was
only relieved by doing some yoga poses and after I had her, I continued
doing the poses whenever I felt I stressed and it has helped me a great
deal. I do it once in the morning after the kids leave for school. Your
relaxation techniques could be meditation, self-hypnosis, and exercise
and so on.
Lastly,
set a sleep schedule. Whether you are through with the house chores or
not, once it is time for bed then it is bedtime. Drop everything else
and hit your pillow. Also, make sure that your bedroom is very
comfortable so you can have an uninterrupted and undisturbed sleep.
Getting at least seven hours of sleep is recommended by doctors so try
to get that specified time.
