Breaking: Lawal daura and Ibrahim Magu appear before Senate
The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu and Lawal Daura director general
of the Department of State Services (SSS) have appeared before a Senate
panel to discuss the clash between their officials, Premium Times
reports.
Gathered that the clash started when
operatives of the EFCC attempted to arrest former head of NIA, Ayo Oke,
and former DSS DG, Ita Ekpeyong.
The Senate on Wednesday, November 22, had mandated an ad-hoc committee to investigate the cause of the clash and report back.
The EFCC stated that it had obtained two separate warrants from a court to arrest the former bosses, adding that it also got the permission of the court to search their residences.
Magu, in reaction to the situation afterward, said there is no going back on the plan to have the former heads of the security agencies arrested.
According to an earlier report, an attempt by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest the heads of the State Security Service (SSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has reportedly caused tension in Abuja.
Premium Times reports that a combined team from the EFCC and Nigeria
Police Force (NPF) attempted to arrest the former head of the NIA, Ayo
Oke, as well as that of the SSS, Ita Ekpeyong, in their homes located at
Mamman Nasir Street in the Asokoro district of Abuja.
They were however resisted by armed security agents of the two agencies on guard.
