The PDP presidential candidate has petitioned the US, UK and EU over President Buhari

- Atiku in the petition accused Buhari of threatening the existence of Nigeria’s democracy

- Listing what he described as the president’s sins, Atiku demanded that pressure should be mounted on Buhari to desist from alleged rights violations

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly petitioned the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU), accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of threatening Nigeria’s democracy.

According to Daily Trust, Atiku, in the petition addressed to the UK, EU, and US Ambassadors to Nigeria, accused President Buhari of serially breaching the provisions of the Nigerian constitution.

In the petition dated January 27, 2019, Atiku demanded that pressure should be put on President Buhari to desist from alleged rights violations and ensure a level playing field for all candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

The petition reads in part: “I am also writing you as Nigeria’s international development partner working together to deepen and strengthen our democracy as well as to help in the transformation of our economies and societies for the better.

“While the president has ironically taken oath to safeguard and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the reality of his selective and wanton violations of its provisions means that his oath is observed only in the breach.”

Atiku also listed as ‘Buhari’s sins’ the “purported suspension of CJN Onnoghen, the illegal purchase of the Tucano Aircrafts, disregard for court orders such as refusal to release on bail Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, Leader of a Shiite Group, IMN, and Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), a former National Security Adviser (NSA),” among others.

He added: “The approval of $1 billion for military expenditure before approaching the National Assembly, the Executive Order No. 006 (On Preservation of Suspicious Assets and Related Schedules).”

Meanwhile, syngossipnews previously reported Atiku promised that if elected president,he would site a refinery in Akwa Ibom state.

The former vice president made the promise during the PDP's presidential campaign rally in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital on Monday, January 28, The Nation reports.

He stated that his commitment to restructuring the country would bring enormous benefits to the state.

He also urged the people of the state to support the party to return to power at the centre and all levels of governance in the state; pointing out that landmark development projects in the state were achieved under successive PDP administrations.
